Over the last couple of days I’ve had an opportunity to test Panasonic’s new HD camera the AG-HPX250. Panasonic has taken the guts of a over the shoulder camera and placed them inside the body of a much smaller handheld camera.
The AG-HPX250 is similar in size to the HVX200 that I originally owned but that’s about where the similarities end.
The HPX250 sports a brand news lens from Panasonic with a 22x zoom. For a nature and wildlife guy like me it’s something I’ve wanted to see in a smaller bodies camera from Panasonic for a long, long time.
After using the HPX250 to film nature and wildlife, it’s going to be hard going back to the HPX170 that’s for sure.
And as always, shoot the ordinary and make it extraordinary!
Kevin I also shoot currently with a HPX170, can you comment about the image itself comparitively?

As far as the Panasonic Mojo the HPX250 carries on the tradition.
I think with subjects that are pretty close the 170 is going to hang right in there.
The biggest difference I see is say instead of shooting an individual flower in the prairie if I back off and shoot the whole prairie itself. The 250 is giving me a more detailed image.
Plus it’s full HD where the 170 is not. It’s pretty impressive to see that full sized image up on the monitor!
The 170 is smaller and lighter but the 250 with all it’s extra goodness makes me want to get one and relegate the 170 to a B camera.
So if I’m looking to replace my HVX200, this is a no-brainer, right? I never thought the 170 was different enough, or improved enough to make the switch, but sounds like the HPX250 offers significant improvement.
